John Bunyan was born at Elstow, Bedfordshire in 1628. At an early age he learned the trade of tinker and earned his livelihood this way for many years. He lived a godless and openly wicked life. Some time afterward, a change took place when he became the subject of converting grace. His passion for God and ministering to others brought about his twelve year imprisonment.

Bunyan may have written parts of his book while imprisoned in Bedford Jail (England) for preaching the gospel.

Pilgrim's Progress was first published in 1678.

This story is written as a dream and is an analogy of man in his search for truth and his adventures and journey in faith.
